About Art Therapy
Art is a powerful tool to help you understand yourself. Through art making, you will find peace and the answers to difficult decisions. Art helps with your mental health in calming yourself, regulating and healing brain wave patterns, and the nervous system. Seeing an art therapy professional can help you deal with anxiety, stress, depression, trauma or any mental health challenge you are dealing with. Benefits include calming your system, releasing tension, and resolving old patterns that may have plagued you since childhood.
Often, we treat creativity as supplemental. But creativity is an important part of life and in therapy, it offers another layer of expression. Being in touch with one’s creativity assists with getting in touch with feelings and emotions. It goes beyond talking and connects us to our senses. When a client is complete with art making, a common inquiry is to ask them how they felt creating the drawing or art form and to explain more about what they created – the client brings their own interpretation of the art medium and they are the creator. The therapist is just the assistant to help the client with strategies that might help with the issue. Creativity provides a different perspective to talk therapy and offers a unique way of approaching problems. It is very therapeutic – a great way to express yourself and relieve stress.
I want to help people who aren’t thriving or who aren’t at the height of their potential – art can be used to access the subconscious mind. I tailor the sessions to the client – asking what creative mediums they like. In time, we can add different modalities at a later date to help them try something new and find the forms of expression that work better for them.

About Tracey
What to expect in your sessions with me:
A typical therapy session lasts 60 minutes, once a week. A session would entail an initial conversation to clarify issues that are of concern, along with the integration of facilitated expressive arts. Specific issues may resolve themselves within a few sessions, or you may feel the need to explore challenges more deeply over a longer period of time– this requires patience with progress and an understanding that change takes time. But throughout this process, what is really important in a therapist is someone who is your personal cheerleader, someone who has your back and listens while honouring your individuality and uniqueness, and revels in your differences. Coming from a strength-oriented perspective, I look for the best in people and usually find it. With a never-ending enthusiasm for personal growth and the creation of healing opportunities, I am able to see possibility instead of limitations.
I believe counselling is about living, operating and working from the heart – you can count on me to be super passionate about people, and most importantly, about you and the challenges that you face. An inspired therapist helps inspire you to achieve greatness with a soft, gentle, warm and welcoming touch. Finding oneself through the art and discovering more of who you are is a cornerstone of my work with my clients. I believe, and respect, that the best type of healing comes from within yourself. That goes regardless of your religion, your upbringing, your gender, your age or anything about you. At the heart of it all, I believe that your emotional pain – whatever it may be – can be a great teacher. You only need to listen to its inherent lessons. I believe it’s your imagination that can provide the answers you need, and help you see your challenges in a new way. I’m here to help you uncover, face and then cope with your pain (which can be expressed physically or psychologically). Trusting in yourself and your inner wisdom is possible and you can learn to be your own best friend. Imagine finding solutions that are heart felt, loving and supportive to your own system and body.
