creativity and expression in art making

samples of lessons from life book 2015 a mixed media online art video and workshop

I am into week 14 of Tamara Laporte’s Life Book 2015, a mixed media online course that showcases the talents and instruction of a variety of internationally acclaimed artists. The best part… you can join even if you have never done any art! This course is for anyone and everyone, and is suitable for beginners, intermediates and masters.

I wanted to share some of the things I have learned so far from this class, not withstanding the multiple art supply options, tools and techniques that have opened me up to new possibilities. The commitment to the practice of art highlight the many benefits of art exploration.

I have learned that there are no mistakes, but instead opportunities to grow and learn. I have created good art, and bad art, and each time I have connected to my heart and listened to the artist within.

I have learned to enjoy the process, and not put so much emphasis on the end product.

I have learned to appreciate other people’s work and gain insight into instructors methods and have garnered ideas for potential variations of the original design.

I have learned to value myself, if for nothing else than the reality that I come to the table, ready to work each week and absorb as much information as possible. I rise to each artistic challenge.

I have learned that I can create more freely when I lower my high standards and at times unreasonable expectations of myself.

I have learned that this journey has given me the gift of expansion, I am brave and unwavering in my passion for the arts.

I have learned that I am good enough, just as I am. I can celebrate my accomplishments, my completed artworks, as my own means of self expression and release.

These are just some of the benefits of developing an art practice.

Above are some of my finished assignments, each with their own personality, and my spin on the artwork. I will surely be joining Life Book for years to come. Find out more at http://www.willowing.org/life-book-2015/
