Career Coaching

There comes a time in our lives when we all need to make a great first impression. Interviews can be scary and anxiety provoking. Writing resumes and cover letters can be stress inducing and nerve wracking. Where to start?

You are not alone.

It can be helpful to have someone walk beside you to assist in figuring out the in’s and out’s of your career journey. Whether you are looking for a complete career change or applying for a new job, having someone on your team can make the process painless and effortless.

What’s stopping you from having the job/career of your dreams? Procrastination? Lack of focus? Lack of motivation? Inexperience with the process? Inattentiveness? Not in touch with your inner psyche? Well, you have come to the right place.

As a career coach and counsellor, I am happy to help with any part of the process, whether it be writing a resume or cover letter, brushing up on interview skills and techniques, reviewing career options and planning for the future, or simply connecting with your vision of the perfect job or career. My philosophy is that we all have a purpose in life and it is our job to find out what that purpose it. Start by asking: What is important to you? What are your values? What are you a stand for? How can you serve the world with your greatness and become part of the solution?

By connecting clients to their ultimate mission statement or vision for the future, it becomes a guiding light for the unfolding of their lives. Each choice you make subsequently builds upon one another, so make your choices count. Take one step at a time, allow it to unfold naturally without pushing or straining. Pursue your dreams and let your heart guide you – the rest will follow.

Perhaps you are simply wanting to brush up on your skills and determine where to re-focus your efforts. Let’s say that you are an accountant, and you realize that the job is not perfectly suited to you but you don’t know where to turn. You know internally that it doesn’t fulfill your heart’s desire, and no longer feel passionate about your current path. Inherently you know that there must be something else out there that is a better match for your personality, assets, skills, abilities or interests… but you don’t know where to turn to find the answers.

I help my clients to connect with and to communicate their own unique flair and individual qualities so that they can learn to market themselves professionally to a prospective employer. Coming from a strengths perspective, I am truly passionate about helping you learn more about what “makes you tick” – what makes you a special and unique snowflake, so to speak. It’s important that we trust in our innate (and learned) talents and skills, because if we don’t own them, no one will do the work for us. One of my strengths is writing resumes and cover letters that capture attention and make a definitive impression.

My initial foray into counselling began with career coaching, assessments and life skills/careers workshop facilitation. Off and on, over the past eight years, I have assisted teens, youth and students to make sense of their own individual career pathways as they move into the world of adulthood. My experience in career coaching came from several years working for non -profit agencies where I assisted with career assessments, career development and career exploration. I have years of well-rounded experience working as a career counsellor and facilitator with a variety of multi-barriered unemployed individual ranging in gage form 18 through to 75. Age is no limit, as long as you are on board and have a desire to look inward and determine what makes your heart sing. I have facilitated and delivered workshops in strategic Resume development, targeted Cover letters, Networking, Interview Skills, Self Employment and Job Readiness. As well, I have administered numerous career assessments to help clients find the most suitable jobs for their qualifications and interests. Certified in Personality Dimensions, Job Club Facilitation Training and Essential Skills, I utilize a solid marketing background with an ability to identify and create effective personal career brands. I specialize in focusing on your potential – for change, for creativity, for adaptation, for communication…. All qualities that potential employers are looking for.

Walking hand in hand, I can support you on your journey to a more fulfilling career or a better suited job. A career coach can provide you with the tips and techniques that make all the difference. Whether it be preparing for your job interview and anticipating real world questions or bolstering your confidence so you know that you “got this”, I can help you with mock interviews and role playing to get you in gear for the next step in the evolution of your career.

And what if you want to be an entrepreneur? Great idea!

I can help. As a freelance graphic designer for over ten years, my experience working for myself has provided me with the insight, wisdom, training, and intuition to help you create a business of your dreams. Whether you have an idea for your business or are still in the brainstorming phase, I can help you with guidance and counsel to work towards building a successful business.

Starting a business takes courage, persistence and ‘know how’. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who sees your grace and beauty, and knows how to help you shine. Putting your best foot forward is one of my specialties and I thrive in bringing your brilliance to the light. Helping you to read your audience, I can assist with tailoring your marketing materials to fit the needs of a prospective employer. With a focus on qualities of integrity and authenticity, I aim to listen deeply to your desires and help you match your excellence to that of your dream job. Amazing things happen when we get to know ourselves better and learn to identify our strengths.

I also work from a strengths and potential -oriented perspective, gently guiding individuals to look within and to own their gifts. I focus on building up the client and I am convinced that we all have the ability to heal our wounds and develop into our highest potential with gentle care, focus and dedication. I take a stand for your greatness and with empathy and compassion, am there to encourage you when you feel like playing small. We create opportunities by asking for them – by having clarity of thought in alignment with our inner guidance system, and through the magic of imagination, we work to bring your dreams to fruition.

Here is my favorite quote that guides my work and philosophies, from Marrianne Williamson from her book “A Return to Love”:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Your job search or career revolution process doesn’t have to be a struggle. Find the gems in your aptitudes and abilities.

You are worth it.
